Responsive Websites…. the new thing!
A ‘responsive’ website is one in which the site will be designed and constructed in such a way as to recognise what type of device is displaying the website. This means that the site will respond to the device it was browsed from, and based on that device’s width, the same site will re-position itself to a layout which is most suitable for that width.
For example, if a mobile phone was opening the web page, it would respond automatically and display a version that is optimised for that device making it more user friendly. When someone opens the site on an ipad or tablet or computer, the site would respond according to the device opening the page.
This is different than a separate mobile version of the site as a ‘responsive’ website is a single site that changes its layout.
As a result, users across a broad range of devices and browsers will have access to a single source of content, laid out so as to be easy to read and navigate with a minimum of resizing, panning, and scrolling.
With the vast majority of people and potential customers browsing the internet on smartphones, tablets and various other devices, make sure your site is user friendly or you could be losing business.
